Massage and Tui Na
Chinese medical massage and Tui Na are important healing
components in
traditional Chinese medicine. Tui Na has been well documented
throughout the five thousand years of Chinese history.
This massage method provides innumerable benefits for
complementary treatments and treatment of Qi and blood.
Massage utilizing the knowledge and theory of meridians
and energy provides a fantastic template to develop
a no-needle treatment plan. Tui Na differs from other
forms of massage as it is used to treat specific illnesses,
internal illnesses as well as muscular/skeletal ailments.
Massage and Tui Na utilize the meridian theory of Chinese
medicine. It practices a variety of massage and manipulation
to restore a balanced flow of Qi throughout the body,
and therefore reestablishing a state of optimal health.
The foundation and techniques stimulate the flow of
Qi by directly manipulating and establishing the realignment
of muscle and ligament relationships. Cupping and moxibustion
are also included under the Tui Na umbrella of techniques.
Massage techniques encourage and allow the release of
healing energies.
Indications from massage and Tui Na include the following:
• Cellulite detoxification
• Digestive disorders
• Edema
• Headaches
• Limited ROM (range of motion)
• Muscular skeletal pain
• Pain in the lower back, shoulder & leg
• Pain management
• Post-operative pain
• Psychological problems

• TMJ
Massage and Tui Na manipulation can relieve pain as
well as treat the internal organs. Regular treatments
may prevent reoccurring symptoms. Regular whole-body
sessions are excellent for preventative wellness treatments.
The relationship between practitioner and patient creates
a foundation of communication regarding the best individualized
treatment.
It is important that the patient be relaxed during the
session. Therefore a careful description of the treatment
modality builds confidence and creates comfort in the
treatment setting. In most sessions the massage will
begin at the head or the feet and is a personalized
plan depending on the ailments and diagnosis.
There are two kinds of massage: centripetal and centrifugal.
Centripetal massage simple means that the blood is massaged
toward the heart speeding the return of the blood and
lymph. Centrifugal moves the blood and lymph away from
the heart. An excellent relaxing treatment.
